Example of a daily routine in the preschool room

9.00- 9.30 Outdoor activities

Provide opportunities for heath & physical learning while investigating environment

Outdoor experiences including obstacle course, ball activities, sand play, water play and dramatic play
Self selected open-ended experiences
Child-initiated and negotiated tasks

9.30-9.50- Informal group session

May include: story, sharing experiences, discussing plans for the day

9.50- Toilet visit and prepare for morning tea

(Morning tea is part of the curriculum and promotes language and social development and discussions about the world.)

10.00-10.50- Planning and negotiating experiences - Indoor experiences

Combinations of child-initiated, teacher-child negotiated and teacher-initiated play-based experiences, real-life experiences and investigation

Quiet inside activities from Health and physical learning and Social & personal learning: music, dance, drama, free play, home corner, Lego play etc

Writing and drawing

Children draw and explore early forms of writing to communicate ideas to others (peers and adults). Cares provide support by scribing, helping children to use current knowledge about letters and sounds, and drawing attention to new symbols and ideas about writing and representing.

10.50-11.15 Group Time

Music and movement experiences, Whole group story or language focus learning situation

11.15-12.00 Toilet visit and prepare for lunch

(Lunch in preschool is an integrated part of the curriculum and a time for promoting language and social development and discussions about the world, children are encourage to develop self-help skills by making their own beds, taking themselves to the toilet, and making healthy choices from their lunch boxes)

12.00-2.00 Rest or relaxation (as required by individual children)

After a period of rest children are offered quiet activities e.g. threading, story tapes, drawing and puzzles.

2.00-2.30 Afternoon tea

(this time includes toilet time, packing up belongings and getting ready for outdoor play, children are encouraged to leave their room in a tidy way)

2.30-3.00 Group time

Whole-group experiences may include modelled writing, shared book or numeracy experiences. Small group construction experiences, show & tell or self-selection of games and puzzles, etc.

3.00- Afternoon routine

(during this period while children are going home, and we are combining ages, activities and experiences are based on children's choice, weather conditions, and staffing levels. Activities could include: obstacle course, ball activities, swinging, and sand play, water play, dramatic play, music and movement experiences, small group construction experiences and quiet time.)
The preschool routine is flexible to the changing strength, needs and interests of the children and environment. The routine was developed to enhance and cater to an emergent curriculum, which is the planning style at Creative Kids Educare centre.
